The buddy scheme has been developed to enable disabled young people to access the Community and local Leisure Centres. There are two types of buddy schemes available in Hampshire: Community Buddies and Activity Buddies. Please see below information about the Community Buddy scheme and an overview of the buddy providers participating in the scheme. To find out more about activity buddies in your area please click here.

Community Buddy Scheme

Community buddies is part of Hampshire County Councils short breaks programme. Anybody who is aged 7 – 19 can access the scheme. It was designed after feedback from parents which showed that many young people wanted the opportunity to access facilities in the community but were unable to go on their own. By going with a buddy many young people are now able to visit and access places and facilities they were not previously able to. Many of the young people currently using the scheme are going with their buddy to town, cinema, parks, bowling or simply going out for a meal.

1. From 1st May the number of hours that a young person can use under the scheme will be capped at 25 hours per month you can use up to 25 hours in any given month (subject to availability) however hours cannot be accumulated or carried forward to future months. The monthly cap will apply to all current and new users of the scheme.

2. A 50% reduction is available for families on a low income and enquiries can be made to your chosen provider. All families will be asked to sign a self-declaration form before a subsidised rate can be agreed. This will apply to all current and new users of the scheme.

The community buddy scheme is available to all young people in Hampshire. If you are unable to locate a community buddy provider from this list we will look at using alternative providers in your area. Please call Richard Uren (Buddy Coordinator, Parent Voice) if you are unable to find a buddy or experience any difficulties or delays in accessing the scheme on 07500 334767 or
